God is love.
Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8
Hundreds of thousands of people claim the faith of Christianity. But what does it mean to be a Christian? Being a Christian means that we follow Christ and believe that God sent His One and only Son to die for our sins, be crucified then resurrected, ascended to Heaven and we believe He is returning for a glorious church. We as Christians, or Christ-like-created in His image, follow and serve a God that IS love. He knows nothing else. He cannot NOT love.
But if we say we love God and don’t love each other, we are liars. We cannot see God. So how can we love God, if we don’t love the people we can see? I John 4:20
We cannot act unloving towards someone, or hate someone and call ourselves a Christ-follower. We cannot hate and walk in love at the same time. We cannot walk in darkness and light, the two are polar opposites.
As a Christian practicing YogaFaith, you can imagine the hate mail and cyber bullying that goes on behind the scenes. Most of the hate mail comes from “Christians”, not acting in love, but shaming us for how God has called us to connect to Him. Though many will never understand that we practice the postures of prayer found throughout scripture and connect with God intimately and powerfully this way, many feel that they must act unloving to get their point across.
You see, when God calls you to Him, to worship un-abandoned, recklessly-much like David danced (praise Him that we keep our clothes on!) before the Lord-David whirled around and leaped with joy because he was worshiping the way he was led to worship, naked, fully and wholly. 2nd Samual 6:14 says that David danced with ALL his might! Many laughed and scorned David, but it didn’t matter. He was worshiping His King. They too will laugh and scorn us, because they do not have eyes to see or ears to hear what is happening in the spiritual realm.
So it goes with us. Loving God, worshiping Him with out whole selves as so many scriptures tell us to do. We must not bow down, shrink away because of man or woman’s opinion. We must consult the scriptures, always! That is our True North; God’s Word, The B-I-B-L-E!
To understand more of a bible-based yoga practice, please read Stretching Your Faith. It dives deep into scripture and postures found throughout the Old and New Testaments.
Whether you understand this thing we call “whole worship”, “Union with God” “YogaFaith” “Yoga” “Christian Yoga” “Postures of Prayer” or anything else you may want to call it, scripture warns of those who judge others. When you say you are a Christian and point that holy index finger of yours, pause a moment and ask yourself, “Is this loving? Is this what Jesus would do? Would He condemn those who hearts seek after Him, who souls thirst for The Living Water and wish to worship differently than myself? Maybe I don’t understand?” But whatever you do, I caution you dear friends when judging how anyone connects to Christ, interprets scriptures and how they worship the King of Kings.
We do not know how else to interpret scriptures such as the below, and many many more, calling us to worship and love with all that we are. Union, worship, prayer and love for Him and one another.
For it is in closest union with Him that we live and move and have our being. Acts 17:28 (WNT)
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. Deut. 6:5 (CSB)
And you must love him with all your heart and soul and mind and strength.’ “The second is: ‘You must love others as much as yourself.’ No other commandments are greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31 (TLB)
Called to love.
